I know, it's not a heli, but since it's still radio controlled I'm posting this on here also.
Rather than post photos of each step in construction, I'm only going to post photos at certain milestones. The Talon is a pretty cheap slope kit designed for elevator aileron only with a full-flying stab (in either v-tail or conventional). The fuse has an interesting construction, which you will see later on as I get on to the fuse.
The designer has published a PDF of mods to make a "Super Talon" with slightly longer wings with flaps and ailerons and a slightly longer and more sturdy fuse. I have decided to make the stock Talon for now, but will trace around parts so that I can build a Super later on (or just buy a kit if he ever manages to get someone to kit it).
The mods I decided to do are the following:
- Replace balsa wing spars with larger hardwood spars
- Laminate balsa fuse with 0.4mm ply
- Lightly fibreglass the fuse (if I can find someone to help me)
So far I have built the right wing, without the wing-tip, trailing-edge or ailerons (I'm leaving them until I have the left and right wings glued together). Changing out the balsa spars was quite fiddly because I had to modify the slots in the ribs by hand to take the larger spars, but had resulted in a fairly rigid wing - there is still a little flex in the wing, but nowhere near as much as it would have been with balsa spars!
